Cyclones Reveal Jack Trice Legacy Game Throwback Uniforms
AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State football program revealed its throwback uniforms that it will wear for the Jack Trice Legacy Game, presented by Nationwide, on Saturday, October 7 when it plays host to TCU at the stadium that bears his name.
Football in the 1920s was a brutal game, an era before face masks. Blocks and tackles that are illegal now were routine. The violence of the game took its toll midway through the third quarter at Northrop Field.
Iowa State is the only major college football team to have named its stadium after a Black man, a player named Jack Trice who died from injuries sustained in a game in 1923 and whose story resonates amid today’s social justice movement.
